Vaccinations for children are presently optional

Hi Parents

I am very excited that the Covid vaccine is now available for 5-11 year-olds. Details for the children’s vaccine are on the Ministry of Health website.

My daughter had her first shot on Tuesday 18 January. We found a walk-in clinic nearby, and had it over and done in 20 minutes (it was less busy than they expected.) With Omicron on the way, I am relieved that I can protect my family.

Presently government and Sport NZ vaccine requirements do not extend to 5-11 year-olds. Our schools have also not told me that young children must be vaccinated to enter the premises (as 12 year-olds and above must be).

Watch this space. I’ll keep updated, and let you know if the requirements change.

In the meantime, if you are pro-vaccination, please consider vaccinating your children. Let’s keep everyone as safe as we can. We can also be prepared if the requirements change.

Best wishes

Master Banicevich.
